Leon County VINELink Changed
The Leon County Sheriff page still directs visitors to VINELink. That link reflects the former county system. Texas officially replaced county VINE with Texas IVSS-Counties on September 1, 2025. Existing registrations transferred, and returning account users may need to reset or update credentials. New Leon County jail checks belong in the current county portal.
This is more than a name change. Old tutorials may tell users to choose Texas on VINELink and enter a four-digit PIN. No fixed PIN step was verified in the live IVSS-Counties workflow. Search a Leon County Inmate
IVSS-Counties is built for a named person, not a chronological list of everyone released. It accepts full or partial name, TDCJ or DOC ID, SID, Jail ID, and permanent booking number. Partial-name searches should include at least three letters from both first and last name. A captcha completes the public query.

IVSS events can include booking, release, court settings or changes, death, escape, and transfer to TDCJ. The event label should always be tied to the reporting custodian.
Register Leon County Release Alerts

TDCJ Release Notification System
TDCJ IVSS is separate from IVSS-Counties. Use it for a person in TDCJ custody, on parole, or on mandatory supervision, including qualified concerned users described by TDCJ. Do not send a Leon County Jail inquiry there unless the Sheriff confirms transfer to state custody.
The TDCJ IVSS portal is the state-prison and supervision notification route.
Its registration is account-based and asks for email, username, password, and confirmation. That workflow must not be mixed with county IVSS instructions.
Leon County VINELink Limits
Neither Texas IVSS product covers federal custody as a general public locator. The BOP Inmate Locator is the public federal route. A past date marked released or not in BOP custody shows exit from BOP, but another jurisdiction may still hold the person. ICE uses its own locator, with released-custody records available for a short recent period. USMS has no broad former-prisoner locator.
County and state data can also lag. TDCJ's public inmate search covers only current inmates and updates on working days with data at least 24 hours old. A person discharged from TDCJ can drop out. For an actual prior state release, use a TDCJ Public Information Act request and parole channels when supervision may have followed.

Confirm a Leon County Release

Request the existing book-out entry with the person's name, approximate booking date, and known identifier. A signed court order may explain bond, dismissal, sentence completion, or community supervision, but it does not establish the precise jail departure time. A release alert means the system received a status event. It can be timely, but it does not carry the same weight as the Sheriff's book-out. Save the alert, its time, and identifier. Ask whether the event was community release or transfer.

IVSS warns that notices do not guarantee safety and data can be incomplete or late. If a record seems wrong, use support and call the Sheriff instead of relying on old VINELink steps.

A no-result has several causes. The person may have left custody and dropped from view. The agency can be offline. An event may not have reached the display. A name, alias, SID, Jail ID, or booking number may differ from the query. Captcha or contact confirmation can also fail. Test known identity details and contact support before interpreting a blank screen.
Then call the Sheriff. Ask whether the person is held, booked out, or transferred, and request the existing record. IVSS absence cannot distinguish those outcomes. Existing alerts may remain active if the person returns to custody, even after the public result disappears.

Federal and Registry Alert Limits
DOJ Victim Notification System is not a public IVSS substitute. It serves enrolled federal victims and uses a Victim Identification Number and PIN issued through the case. Those federal credentials must not be confused with obsolete county VINE PIN tutorials.
The Texas sex-offender registry is not a general release alert system. It can show qualifying registrants after custody, sometimes with a registration image or supervision indicator. Most released people have no registration duty. Absence says nothing about ordinary release, and a registry image is not the Leon County booking photo.
